Grammy Glitz & Glamour: Metallic Moments from Music’s Shining Stars

Glamazons, we meet again!

Many of you who tuned in to the 56th annual Grammy awards on Sunday night likely noticed several MAJOR metallic looks glimmering down the red carpet. Some of music’s shining stars sported sparkling frocks that were a huge hit!

Taylor Swift in Gucci

My absolute favorite look of the night was worn by Taylor Swift. Her gold lamé Gucci gown with mesh overlay, was referred to by the starlet as “chain mail” & “a suit of armor” in several interviews (insert tireless Kanye West joke here!).

Rita Ora in Lanvin

Rita Ora riveted in this short & sassy gold gown from Lanvin. The bright lights reflected gorgeous lime green and violet tones, making her look even more unique than some of the other metallic mavens’.

Ciara in Emilio Pucci

Ciara was truly glowing (for more reasons than one!) in her curve-hunging Emilio Pucci gown. The skintight fit accentuated her adorable baby-bump.

Chrissy Teigen in Johanna Johnson

Last but not least, Chrissy Teigen showed of her bangin’ bod in this strapless Johanna Johnson number. Teigen and hubby John Legend lit our hearts on fire during his performance of “All of Me”. She worked the spotlight & let their love shine from the inside out!

What did you think of these metallic moments? Is this trend a hit or miss? Leave a comment below and let us know your thoughts!

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Hi Glam Dolls,

For those of you who may not be familiar (in other words, living under a rock) it’s award season! That fabulous time of year when celebrities come out to play & take full advantage of the opportunity to get glammed up. Not only is this an occasion for us to gaze at some of Hollywoods hottest stars, but it’s also a chance for us to see what’s trending in fashion & beauty for the upcoming season!

Perhaps my favorite trend on the red carpet thus far, hues of blues & violets were predominantly sported at the SAG Awards by celebutantes young & old. Aquamarine, cobalt, navy & indigo — the spectrum of sea-colored sophistication was almost too much for my glamour-loving heart to handle! Pictured below are a few of my favorite looks:

Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci

Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi

Anna Gunn in Monique Lhuillier

Giuliana Rancic in Basil Soda

Are you inspired to wear azure attire in spring 2014? Comment below & let us know if you think the hues of blues trend will be here to stay!

Oui or Nay for the Ombré?

, , , , , , , , , , ,

Bonjour Glam Divas!

Today’s blog topic is a beauty trend that has been taking Hollywood by storm recently: the Ombré hair color.

The name of the color originally comes from the French term for “shade”, which makes sense considering this style of coloring fades from being darkest at the root to gradually lighter colored at the ends.

This half brown, half blonde look has a very edgy, modern appeal to it. I think it’s quite interesting that this particular style breaks away from the tradition of keepings one’s roots maintained and celebrates a more low-maintenance look.

Let’s check out a few celebs currently rocking the trend:

Khloe Kardashian

Khloe’s Ombré is my favorite of the four simply because it’s a little more subtle and work appropriate, yet is still definitely an Ombré in every sense of the term. Not too light yet not too dark, this perfect shading oozes sexy. If I were brave enough to actually try this trend, I would want my coloring to be EXACTLY like her’s.

Audrina Patridge

I also really like Audrina’s Ombré. Her color progression is definitely a bit more dramatic than the previous, but it exudes a punk-rock chicness that encompasses Audrina’s personal style.

Ashlee Simpson

Ashlee Simpson’s Ombré look is very rock-n-roll. The Ombré color (in my personal opinion) looks best on long-haired individuals, perfect for Miss Simpson.

The final, and most dramatic Ombré of the four is Ciara’s. From ultra-dark to platinum blonde, this Ombré may appear a tad extreme. However, Ciara is one celebrity whose style is constantly evolving, and her Ombré is a reflection of her vivacious personality.

If you are currently contemplating whether or not the Ombré hair color is for you, the most important factor to take into consideration is your work environment/future career aspirations. This color is dramatic, and selecting the right shades to compliment both your skin tone and personal style are crucial to acing this look.

Would you rock the Ombré? Leave a comment and share your thoughts!

Accessories Alert: Envelope Clutch Envy

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Hello Glamour Girls !

I am so thrilled to be on spring break & ready to get back into the swing of things here at theGlamGuru! I’d like to dedicate this post specifically to the envelope clutch, a.k.a. this summer’s must-have accessory.

From bright-colored to color-blocked, the envelope clutch adds that little touch of chic to every fashionista’s summer wardrobe. It provides a level of sophistication that the gigantic tote bags of last season failed to do. At first I just couldn’t fathom having to actually carry my purse around IN HAND every time I left my house. However, what the envelope clutch lacks in practicality it makes up for in elegance.

Below are a few envelope clutches that will make you the envy of passersby:

Tory Burch Robinson Envelope Clutch $325 -

This Tory Burch Robinson Envelope Clutch is the most expensive of the four at $325. However, any Tory Burch handbag should be considered an investment into one’s fashion inventory. This particular clutch is also the Pantone 2012 Color of the Year (Tangerine Tango), and would add a pop of color to any outfit.

BCBG MAX AZRIA Harlow Textured Envelope Clutch $78 -

Metallic gold and texturized, this envelope clutch by BCBG Max Azria is sexy and sleek. It is the perfect accessory for a night out on the town with your girls, or on that hot date you have planned with your man this weekend .

Lemon Meringue Pie Yellow Envelope Clutch $37 -

This envelope clutch, color-blocked in yellow and tan faux-leather, looks and feels like summertime. Not to mention it’s under $40, virtually a steal! An accessory that is both adorable and affordable, what’s not to love?

H&M Patent Envelope Clutch $25 - H&M stores

Finally, this blush colored, patent leather clutch with rose gold metal accent by H&M exudes femininity. It is the perfect accent piece for the fashionista looking to add a touch of modernism to her look.

These envelope clutches are just a few of many that will be hot this season. My personal advice would be to purchase one in a staple color (i.e. nude, white, silver, gold) and another that can serve as a pop of color (neon, metallic, pastel). It is HIGHLY likely that this particular style of clutch will stay in trend into the fall as well, so take the plunge and purchase an envelope clutch if you haven’t already!

Wu-hoo! Jason Wu for Target has arrived in stores!

, , , , , , , , , , ,

Good morning fashionistas!

I’m up early this Sunday morning resounding with joy! Jason Wu’s line for Target is officially available for purchase in stores! If you didn’t brave the crowds this morning, I suggest you act quickly. With all of the media hype surrounding the line, I suspect stores will sell out quickly, as they did with the Missoni for Target collection last year.

I personally experienced a fashion 911 as I entered my local Target to (finally) get my hands on a few of Wu’s works of art. A mob had immediately formed around the few racks holding Wu’s pieces, and within a matter of seconds all of the items were snatched off the stands before I could grab anything. In utter desperation, I called my mother and informed her of the crisis I was facing. She rushed to the Target in her hometown and was able to secure the pieces I had been daydreaming about for weeks now. I’m so grateful to have a mother who shares my passion for fashion!

Now let’s talk about the pieces I (well, my mother) purchased:

This gorgeous robin’s egg blue cardigan is an excellent staple for your spring wardrobe. It can be worn with a dress and belted to created a cinched-waist look (as styled in the picture), or with a great pair of colored skinny jeans and a flirty spring top.

This scarf is the perfect accessory to pair with the sweater pictured above. It adds an element of chicness and sophistication to the ensemble. I plan on styling it with the cardigan and a pair of pastel yellow skinny jeans to create a trendy, color-blocked look.

Floral prints are all the rage right now on the spring runway. Although this outfit looks like a dress, it is actually two separate pieces. I purchased the top only, but the skirt is equally adorable.

Pleated and pink, this dress is absolutely darling. The great thing about this piece is that it can be worn right now with a pair of black tights and a black cardigan thrown over it.

This button-down, blush colored blouse is both whimsical and elegant. It can be worn to work with a pair of office appropriate slacks, or to a dinner date with a lace-printed skirt (as styled in the picture).

My final purchase was this ballet pink and black top.  It is a piece that looks both classy and comfortable. I imagine Audrey Hepburn, my style icon, wearing something like this paired with cropped slack and ballet flats.

And there you have it glamour girls! If you already visited your local Target to be a part of the Jason Wu madness, I hope you got everything you were looking for. If not, check on Target’s website before they sell out. Only use eBay as a last resort; their prices are apparently marked up 250% according to

Lovely Looks for Spring

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Happy Saturday glam dolls .

Sparked in large part by the bitter-cold weather we’ve been experiencing lately, I’ve spent much of this Saturday morning daydreaming of springtime. This thought has inevitably led me to the realization that I need to start sprucing up my warm weather wardrobe. As such, I feel it is only appropriate to dedicate today’s post to my favorite fashion trends for spring. The styles pictured below are 100% wearable for any woman and are, in my opinion, absolutely adorable. Let’s take a closer look:

Say so long to the fluorescent frocks that have been in style the past few seasons! This spring it’s all about soft, pastel shades. These colors are feminine and complement virtually any skin tone.

This office appropriate look is a glam reinterpretation of the power suit for ladies. It shows off just the right amount of skin, transforming the wearer into a style savvy businesswoman. This chic colored blazer with shorts can also be easily mixed-n-matched with other separates to create several different looks, making it a great style investment.

If you aren’t familiar with the peplum style top/dress/skirt already, you are in for a real treat with this trend! A short ruffle that sits on the tiniest part of your waist and flares slightly at the bottom, this old school turned new school silhouette is both figure flattering and flirty.

These are just a few of the fabulous fads I’ve fallen in love with for spring.  What are your favorite trends for the coming season? Comment and let me know!

Karl Lagerfeld’s Comedic Self-Interview

, , , , , ,

Bonjour les filles glamour!

I’m sure many of you are well aware that the fashion powerhouse, otherwise known as Karl Lagerfeld, has created and launched his self-entitled line for Net-a-Porter as of yesterday, January 25th. The affordable price range of the line spans from $25 for a canvas tote up to $1k for certain leather pieces. I personally plan on investing in at least one of the products because HELLO it’s by Karl Lagerfeld for Heaven’s sake! I better act fast though; apparently most of the products have already sold out!!

credit: Net-a-Porter

Today, as I was doing some research on the line, I came across one of the greatest interviews I have seen in a long while, featuring none other than Mr. Lagerfeld himself! Not only is it a rarity to hear the iconic designer express himself verbally, but also in the video he conducts the interview himself. I have to say, I never would have pegged him as the comedic type, but I found myself giggling at several of the answers he poses to his own questions. The video itself was produced by Net-a-Porter as a promotion for the new line. If you have a few minutes to spare and you love all-things Lagerfeld, I recommend you watch it for yourself:
